Red Wine Recommendations for Truffles

Barbaresco is one of the finest red wines made from the Nebbiolo grape. It is now known as the "wine of kings" and the "wine of queens" along with Barolo, which represents Italian wine, but until the end of the 19th century, it was not as well known as Barolo, and Barolo wine was often made from the grapes harvested from Barbaresco.

In 1894, Domizio Cavazza, then director of the Royal Oenological School of Alba, brought together nine vineyards to create Cantine Sociari, Barbaresco's first cooperative of producers, which marketed its wines under the Barbaresco label. The cooperative was disbanded in the 1920s, but in 1958, 19 vineyards were reunited at the urging of the priest of the village of Barbaresco in order to keep the small vineyards alive. Thus, Produttori del Barbaresco was born.
